The statutory weekly pay used to work out redundancy is capped, and that cap changes every April. The default shown here (approx £751) is labelled for the 2026/27 tax year and is not authoritative — please confirm the current cap on gov.uk and update this box before relying on the figure.

How is statutory redundancy pay calculated?

Statutory redundancy pay is based on three things: your age, your length of continuous service (up to a maximum of 20 years) and your weekly pay (up to a statutory cap). For each full year of service you get 1.5 weeks' pay for years worked while aged 41 or over, 1 week's pay for years worked while aged 22 to 40, and half a week's pay for years worked while aged under 22. The number of weeks is then multiplied by your capped weekly pay. This tool works backwards from your current age, year by year, to apply the right band to each year of service.

How many years count towards redundancy pay?

Only full years of continuous service count, and the total is capped at 20 years. So even if you have worked somewhere for 25 or 30 years, statutory redundancy pay is calculated on your most recent 20 years only. Part-years are not rounded up — they simply do not count towards the statutory figure.

Is there a limit on the weekly pay used?

Yes. There is a statutory cap on the amount of weekly pay that can be used in the calculation, no matter how much you actually earn. If your gross weekly pay is above the cap, the cap figure is used instead. This cap is reviewed and usually changes every April, so the figure in the calculator is editable — always confirm the current cap on gov.uk before you rely on the result.

Does this tool store my details?

No. Everything you type stays in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, saved or sent anywhere, and the calculation happens entirely on your own device. Refresh the page and it is gone.

An important note on rates and caps

Statutory redundancy rates, the weekly pay cap and the eligibility rules can change — the cap in particular usually changes every April. This tool is a guide to give you a ballpark figure, not an official statement of what you are owed. Always confirm the current figures and your own eligibility on gov.uk, or take advice from ACAS or an employment adviser.
