Website Cost Calculator
"How much for a website?" is a fair question with an annoyingly wide answer. Pick what you actually need below and we'll show you a realistic UK market price range — plus what's really driving the cost.
What's driving the price
- Cheap isn't the same as good value — a £300 site that brings in no work costs you more in the long run than a £1,500 one that keeps the phone ringing.
- The real cost of a website is usually the monthly neglect, not the build — a site nobody updates or checks stops earning its keep fast.
- Watch out for "free website" builders — the site itself might be free, but the monthly platform fee, transaction fees and lack of ownership add up over a few years.

Any UK small business owner or tradesperson trying to work out a fair budget for a new website before speaking to anyone. Use it to sanity-check quotes you've already had, or to work out what you can realistically expect for your budget before you start asking around. We've written a full breakdown too — see our guide: How much does a website cost?
Why is the range so wide?
Because three things move the price a lot: how many pages you need, which features you add on top, and who builds it. A DIY builder, a freelancer and a small agency can all produce a working website for wildly different money, with very different levels of design, speed, SEO and ongoing support. The ranges here are typical UK freelancer/small-agency market prices — not a DIY platform's monthly fee and not a big agency's day rate.
What ongoing costs should I expect?
Hosting, a domain and basic security cost around £10–£30 a month as a minimum, whoever builds your site. A care plan on top of that (updates, backups, small content changes) usually runs £30–£100 a month and is worth it once your site is actually earning you enquiries — it's cheap insurance against the site going stale or breaking.
Is a cheap website a false economy?
Sometimes, but not always — it depends what you need the site to do. Judge it on what it will earn you, not just what it costs to build. A basic site that's fast, clear and easy to find on Google can outperform an expensive one that isn't.
How do I get an exact price?
You get a proper quote after a short conversation about what you actually need — pages, features, timeline and budget. That's exactly what BuildMeA does, and it's free with no obligation.
Please note: this tool gives a guide or estimate only. It may not be 100% accurate and is not professional advice — always check the figures before you rely on them. Everything you select stays in your browser — nothing is uploaded, saved or sent anywhere. This is a market estimate, not a BuildMeA price list.
