Common Questions
What's the difference between Xero and QuickBooks?
Both are excellent. Xero is more popular with UK accountants and has a cleaner interface. QuickBooks has stronger international integration. I'll recommend based on your accountant's preference.
Can this replace my accountant?
No. Bookkeeping automation handles daily transaction recording and invoicing; your accountant still files your tax return and provides advice.
How does CIS work in Xero?
Xero handles CIS deductions automatically: it calculates the right deduction on subcontractor payments and generates monthly CIS returns. I set this up correctly from the start.
Can I connect my bank directly?
Yes, bank feeds pull transactions automatically so you don't manually enter them.
How long does setup take?
1–2 days for the core Xero/QuickBooks setup. Connecting all integrations may take 3–5 days total.
Can I do my own bookkeeping after setup?
Yes. Training teaches you the key weekly tasks, and most trades spend 30 minutes a week after automation.
Do you handle VAT returns?
Setup includes VAT configuration. Submitting returns via Xero's MTD-compliant integration is covered in training.
What if I'm behind on my bookkeeping?
I can help catch up; entering historic transactions is a separate scope, but doable.
Can my accountant have access?
Yes, invite them as an advisor. They see your accounts in real time, which typically reduces their bill at year-end.
Will it work with my existing invoicing system?
If you use a separate invoicing tool, I'll set up the integration so invoices automatically appear in Xero.
