The Brief: Build Something Useful Before You Ask For Anything

Most of the trades and local businesses we work with don't wake up thinking about SEO or web design; they think about whether this month's VAT return is right, whether a quote is actually going to be profitable, or whether they're charging enough for a job. BuildMeA Projects started as a way to be useful to that exact problem, for free, with no catch: a calculator or checker that solves one specific, nagging admin question in under a minute.

The brief we set ourselves was simple: every tool has to be something a real tradesperson would actually use, not a marketing gimmick dressed up as a tool. If it doesn't save someone time, money, or a phone call to their accountant, it doesn't go live.

The Approach: Ten Categories, Built From Real Conversations

Rather than guessing what people wanted, the catalogue grew out of actual questions clients and prospects had asked over the years: "how much should I actually be setting aside for tax?", "is this quote worth the drive?", "what's a fair markup versus margin?". Those questions got grouped into ten categories: Money & tax, Running your trade, Builders & site trades, Material calculators, Staff & payroll, Hair & beauty, Hospitality & food, Health & fitness, For homeowners, and For every local business.

Every tool runs entirely in the browser: your numbers never leave your device unless you choose to download something. Some tools, like the Tax Pot Calculator or Markup vs Margin Calculator, give you an instant on-screen answer with nothing to fill in. Others, like the Flat-Rate Price List Builder or the Snagging List Builder, produce something printable or exportable, and ask for an email only when you actually want to take that document away.

What's Next

100 tools is the first milestone, not the finish line: the roadmap runs to 150, and new tools regularly come directly from customer requests. If there's a calculator, checker or printable that would save your trade time, you can request a tool and every request gets a real reply.
