Who this is for

Anyone pricing up or ordering a kitchen worktop — fitters, kitchen installers, and DIYers replacing worktops themselves. It gives you a quick materials estimate: how many standard lengths to order and roughly how much waste to expect, before you get a formal cutting list from the supplier.

Why does it add a waste allowance?

Every cut, mitred joint and out-of-square wall eats length you can't get back. A 10% allowance is a sensible starting point for a straightforward kitchen, but tighten it up or loosen it depending on how many joins and corners you've got, and how confident you are in your measurements.

Should I measure twice before ordering?

Yes — always. Walls are rarely perfectly square, and worktops are expensive to get wrong. Take your own site measurements right before ordering rather than relying on kitchen plan drawings, and get a second measurement from someone else where you can.

Is this a fitting quote?

No. This is a materials estimate only — how much worktop to buy — not a price for supply, cutting or fitting. Get an actual quote from your worktop supplier or fitter once you've got your final cutting list.

What counts as a worktop run?

A run is one continuous straight section of worktop before it turns a corner or meets another run at a joint. An L-shaped kitchen is usually two runs; a U-shaped kitchen is usually three. Measure each one separately and enter it above.
