Who this is for

Any UK salon, barber, spa, garage, café, restaurant or independent shop that wants to sell gift vouchers without paying a printer's or a voucher platform. If you've been meaning to "get some gift vouchers made" before Christmas, Mother's Day or Valentine's and never quite got round to it, this turns it into a ten-minute job: design it here, print a numbered sheet on plain card, cut along the guides, and you're taking voucher money the same afternoon.

Should gift vouchers expire?

Yes — an expiry date is customer-friendly and standard practice. 12 months is the norm and gives people plenty of time without leaving your books open forever. Whatever date you pick, honour it consistently: if a customer turns up a week late with a genuine reason, most owners still redeem it — goodwill costs you nothing and a refusal costs you a review.

What about the money if a voucher's never redeemed?

Unredeemed vouchers are called "breakage" in accounting terms, and yes, it's a nice little bonus if it happens. But treat the cash as a liability, not profit, until the voucher is either redeemed or expires — you've been paid for a service you haven't delivered yet. Keep it simple: don't spend it as if it's already earned.

Do I need to track voucher numbers?

Yes — the serial numbers exist for exactly this. A notebook or a simple spreadsheet is enough: one row per voucher with columns for serial number, who it was sold to, the date sold, and the date redeemed (leave blank until used). Takes ten seconds per voucher and saves an argument the day someone tries to use one twice.

Tip: stamp or write the serial number on your till receipt or card machine slip when you sell one — it's the easiest way to match a redemption back to a sale later.

Does this tool store my details?

No. Everything — the design, the print sheet and the PNG — is built entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is uploaded, saved or sent anywhere, so you can make and print as many vouchers as you like.

Please note: this tool gives a guide or estimate only. It may not be 100% accurate and is not professional advice — always check the figures before you rely on them. Set a clear, reasonable expiry on any voucher you issue — if your business ever stops trading, voucher holders have no automatic refund protection, and everything you type here stays in your browser and is never uploaded or stored by us.
