How do I make a WhatsApp click-to-chat link?

Enter your WhatsApp number and an optional pre-filled message. The tool builds a standard wa.me link (for example https://wa.me/447123456789?text=Hi) that opens WhatsApp with your chat and message ready to send. UK 07 numbers are converted to the international 447 format automatically.

Where should I put the WhatsApp QR code?

Wherever customers can scan it: on the van, on quote paperwork and email signatures for trades; at the till and in the window for shops and cafés; on the mirror or price list for salons. A window QR works after hours, which is when many enquiries actually happen.

Do I need WhatsApp Business for the link to work?

No. The wa.me link works with normal WhatsApp. The free WhatsApp Business app is still worth it for a business profile, opening hours, away messages and quick replies — same number, same phone, you just install the Business app.

Is my number uploaded or stored anywhere?

No. The link and QR code are generated entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is uploaded, saved or sent anywhere — your number goes nowhere until a customer messages you on it.

1. Your details

Your WhatsApp number That doesn't look like a UK mobile — enter it like 07123 456789 (or +44 7123 456789). UK numbers are converted automatically (07… becomes 447…). Spaces and dashes are fine.

Pre-filled message (what the customer's WhatsApp says before they hit send) Keep it short. They can edit it before sending — it just removes the "what do I write?" pause.

Who this is for

Any UK business whose customers would rather tap out a quick message than sit in a phone queue — trades, salons, cafés, shops, garages, gyms, clinics. If you've ever missed a job because someone couldn't be bothered to ring, a WhatsApp link fixes it: they scan, a chat opens with the message already written, and it waits there until you reply. Paste your number, print the poster, put it where people can see it.

Why WhatsApp beats "call us"

Plenty of people — especially younger customers, and anyone contacting you out of hours — simply won't phone a business they don't know. A WhatsApp message feels effortless, and unlike a missed call it sits in your inbox until you answer. With a pre-filled message the customer doesn't even have to think about what to type: they scan, tap send, done. You get a warm enquiry with a name attached instead of a voicemail you have to chase.

Where do I put the QR code?

Trades: on the van (laminated or as a vinyl sticker), on your quote paperwork, in your email signature.
Shops & cafés: the till point, and the window — a window QR works after hours, which is where a lot of enquiries actually come from.
Salons & studios: the mirror, the price list, booking cards.

Tip: use a different pre-filled message per spot (e.g. "Hi! I saw your van…" vs "Hi! I'm at the shop window…") and you'll know exactly where each enquiry came from. Make one poster per message — this page doesn't mind how many you print.

Do I need WhatsApp Business?

The link works with normal WhatsApp, but the free WhatsApp Business app is worth it: a proper business profile, opening hours, away messages ("On the tools — back to you by 5pm") and saved quick replies. Same number, same phone — you just download the Business app instead of the standard one.

Is anything uploaded or stored?

No. The link and QR code are generated entirely in your browser — your number goes nowhere until a customer messages you on it. Nothing you type here is uploaded or saved by us. Print as many as you like.

Please note: this tool gives a guide or estimate only. It may not be 100% accurate and is not professional advice — always check the figures before you rely on them. Your number, message and business name stay in your browser — nothing you type here is uploaded or stored by us. WhatsApp is a trademark of Meta Platforms, Inc.; this tool just builds standard wa.me links.
